Back from BonnWester Ross WeekendDistil rehearsalsHarpless travel!Summer on Skye - Sabhal Mor Ostaig Clarsach CourseIndex Edinburgh Harp Fest Funby Karen Marshalsay - 18:01 on 03 April 2008Just back this morning from another great festival in Edinburgh, tired but happy and fired up with lots of ideas! I had 16 students and we had a good time learning 5 different tunes. We started with a reel from the Athole Collection, Mr John Smith and the first part of Crossing the Minch (played using two hands on the tune); moved onto a Gordon Duncan jig The Soup Dragon (I'm still a Clangers fan at heart); slowed down a bit with the 9/8 retreat march The Battle of the Somme and finished with a tune I wrote for my harpmaker Jack Yule, The Twenty Fifth String. We did also do all the other parts of Crossing the Minch too! I also went along to some great workshops with wire player Javier Sainz and the player/composer team of Fitkin Wall. There were concerts every evening, a makers exhibition, lots to buy, and lots of folks to see and catch up with. All in all a good time. Add your comment |
