Edinburgh International Harp Festival April 09

Karen will be teaching two 5 day classes at this year's prestigious Edinburgh International Harp Festival - one for wire players (mixed abilities) and one for Scottish tunes (Adult Elementary) on gut clarsach.

SCOTTISH ELEMENTARY (ADULTS) A chance to work with Karen on some simple but beautiful Scottish tunes from haunting airs to cheery dance tunes and recent compositions, all chosen to sit well on the clarsach, and arranged to gently expand the abilities of the learning harper. Techniques and fingerings used in the arrangements will be carefully explained, and tunes will be taught by ear with written music given out daily. A fun and rewarding class  which will help build your repertoire and confidence!
WIRE-STRUNG CLARSACH (MIXED ABILITIES) This class will explore the instrument’s many possibilities, looking at repertoire, playing style, ornamentation, arrangement and techniques. The music will be mostly traditional Scottish including recently composed tunes, a piece to play as a group and studies to develop technical ability. The class will be taught by ear with music also given out.

There will also by many other classes, workshops and concerts in this highlight of the Scottish harping year.
