Taiko

Karen is currently training at the Mugen Taiko Dojo in South Lanarkshire. Having collaborated with Mugenkyo in Yatra for the Edinburgh Mela in 2008 she went on an Introductory weekend at the dojo and got more and more interested in this Japanese drumming artform which combines rhythm and movement in an exciting and highly visual performance.

Joining Taiko Night in June 2009 Karen's first gigs with Team Taiko were at the Edinburgh Festival Fringe 24-26 August at St John's Church. Karen became a member of the dojo in January 2010.

Yatra performed a new piece at the Edinburgh Mela in 2009 with Karen developing the bray harp collaboration with Mugenkyo, particularly with the odaiko and gong, and also featuring wire harp and shinobue (Japanese bamboo flute).
