Karen's Patreon page
As live performances and face to face teaching can't go ahead during the pandemic Karen launched a Patreon page in August 2020 for both general chat and exclusive behind-the -scenes look at the life of a modern harper, and online teaching. Learning pledges start at £5 a month for a pre-recorded teaching videos and sheet music PDFs for a tune and technique exercises a month, and go through various price points and levels, including one to one zoom lessons - you can find it here. There is one tier especially for wire- strung harps, one for lever, and a best of both worlds if you play both. You get immediate access to all the materials as soon as you join.
Karen is available for private teaching online via zoom. This is especially suited to people looking for occasional or one-off sessions working on traditional tunes or Karen's compositions and arrangements, and can cover repertoire, arranging, ornamentation and techniques, and traditional style. Please get in touch to discuss any ideas and possible dates. Private workshops and more intensive series are also possible.
Karen teaches both children and adults at all levels - giving instruction in a variety of harp styles including fingerpad technique for gut-strung instruments, fingernail techniques such as those from the Robert ap Huw manuscript (suitable for various types of harp especially for ornamentation), and gut-strung levered clarsach, wire-strung, bray and Paraguayan harp techniques and tunes.
