FAQ

  • Definitely not! Dance tunes need to be played rhythmically, but not necessarily fast. Strong playing means keeping the beat steady and making the phrases musical, two things that can disappear when people try to play too fast. It’s also great practice to learn and work on tunes slowly.

  • Yes! It’s designed for mixed abilities and I’ll explain everything clearly, suggest what fingers to use, and go over all the tunes phrase by phrase. You’ll have the sheet music in advance so you can print it out and have it ready.

As long as you know the basics of which strings are which and can play some simple things this will be ideal for you. The group will be mixed ability but of course you are in the safety of your own home so no one can hear you!

  • Yes! You get access to the live zoom recordings 6 months so there’s no pressure to take it all in on the day. You can watch these on demand as many times as you like.

  • Three dance tunes from the Scottish tradition! These can be played one after each other as a set, or individually, or you could pair them up with tunes you already know to create your own sets. So you’ll end up with three performance pieces to add to your repertoire. You’ll also learn the background to the tunes, what we know of who wrote it, when or where I learned it. - all you need to put it into context and tell people about it when you play it.

  • These are all new arrangements and indeed new tunes! Obviously I will have taught some of the techniques before but this will be using new material.

  • Absolutely not! I will always explain how traditional style and tune types work, talk about ornamentation and how to make your playing sound Scottish. Come and explore this amazing repertoire!

  • Of course! You’ll get the sheet music and tune recordingsn advance like everyone else, and then get access to all the recordings shortly after the events. I’ll aim to do this as soon as possible, but it might take a few days!

  • No, the concert is for day attendees only as a special extra. But you can watch it on demand afterwards for 6 months and they’ll be filmed rather than just a zoom recording so the sound quality will be better.

  • Yes! This could be a great gift for that harper in your life. Just send me an email after you’ve purchased and I’ll send you a printable PDF that you could gift them.
